Stem FUTURESDISTRICT 6ABOUT LAURA
Laura is a fiber artist and creative technologist born and raised in San Francisco, now deeply rooted in the Mission District. Laura has spent her life navigating the intersections of culture, craft, and community. Her work bridges traditional textile and fiber arts with emerging technology, drawing on the insight that the best innovations have always been inspired by the wisdom of traditional makers. Beyond her artistic practice, she has contributed to the city through art organizations, makers markets, and food aid volunteering, and her graduate capstone work piloted a program that connected families with affordable nutritional food access through community partnerships. Laura believes civic culture is something we actively design together, and she is drawn to projects that make that process tactile, participatory, and joyful.

VISIONYour neighborhood generates data every day. DiscoTech gives it back to you: woven into something yours to keep, yours to interpret, yours to imagine forward. Because a neighborhood is only fully known when all its pieces are tied together.
SF Mission DiscoTech
Weaving, Crafting, and Coding the Future
DiscoTech invites Mission residents to craft visions of their neighborhood’s future, empowered by principles of data sovereignty and creative exploration. This event creates a space for hands-on experimentation at the intersection of art and technology. In a DiscoTech future, we honor the history of craft shaping innovation and carry forward dreams of a future where residents feel empowered by technology.
