Future of Us is a three-part local and national civic initiative anchored by a 10 day festival launching on the 250th anniversary of the United States
Future of Us is a bold initiative that sparks civic imagination, fosters shared purpose, and uplifts communities to shape our democracy’s next chapter.
In the wake of this milestone moment, Future of Us reimagines civic culture using storytelling, design, and inclusive dialogue to surface collective visions—making civic life creative, joyful, and accessible. Through cultural events, national tours, and scalable tools, Future of Us is investing in the cultural foundations that democracy needs to thrive.
HOW IT WORKS
The
VISIONS
We’re engaging communities across the country and in San Francisco to surface public visions through guided dinners, local activations, digital prompts, and science center partnerships — building a participatory template for what civic life could become.
The
FESTIVAL
Future of Us is a 10-day civic imagination festival in San Francisco that blends community-sourced visions, expert insights, and local action through creative cultural experiences.
The
COLLECTIVE
The Future Culture Collective brings together people working formally or informally in the civic space who are seeking connection, collaboration, and shared resources. The Collective is tasked with activating San Francisco’s civic culture, both during and after the Festival.

The heart of democracy is to pursue the desires of the people, and yet few opportunities exist to meaningfully capture the public’s hopes, ideas, and questions about what’s possible. We’re designing a program that facilitates public imagining and integrates expert insight to shape clear collective visions of what could be.

Many communities in the US have been systematically excluded from meaningful civic participation and public decision-making. We need bold cultural fabric and coalitions that center belonging and exploration in our public squares, and tools that make it easy for people to become active co-creators of our collective futures.

On July 4, 2026, our democracy will turn 250. We’re leveraging this milestone moment to galvanize a new kind of civic culture – one built on the thoughtful integration of art, science, connection, and joy – where worldshaping ideas become accessible to all.
